Ghana Association gives back to firefighters

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- This weekend, members from the local Ghana Association celebrated ten years of establishing its group by giving back to local firefighters.

The group visited the Fontaine Fire Station in Charlottesville to feed the firefighters traditional African food.

Nana Akyeampong-Ghartey, chairman for the Ghana Association, said this is a special moment for the group to give back to the people who sacrifice their lives for the community.

"We wanted to come around and say a big thank you to the fire department for all the good job that they've been doing," he said.

The Ghana Association will be hosting an event to celebrate Ghana's Independence Day on March 9 at Tonsler Recreation Park at 7 p.m.
