Global Pathfinder Summit coming to Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- More than 150 emerging leaders from dozens of countries will be in Charlottesville next week for the Global Pathfinder Summit.

Participants will be involved in interactive workshops, community service and engagement opportunities, as well as attended speeches on various topics, such as the impact of youth movements on global challenges and the state of global democracy.

This summit is a signature event of Virginia's 2019 Commemoration, American Evolution.

According to a release, participants are proven leaders in their communities, representing stories of educating young people in the impact of water and food security in South Africa, creating opportunities for the unemployed and homeless in Bolivia, and taking up roles in Virginia government in unprecedented ways.

They were selected through an application process that weighed their record of creating local solutions to global challenges.

The Global Pathfinder Summit's primary outcome will be to draft Virginia Resolutions, a document of values and commitment to the future of global democracy and civic engagement.

It was 400 years ago, in 1619, that the first General Assembly convened in Jamestown, Virginia, setting a basis for democratic government in the then-English colonies.

Now it's time for a new generation of leaders to take an opportunity to gather in the same state to strengthen a commitment to a future of just and free societies marked by the values of democracy, diversity and opportunity.

Individual sessions of the Global Pathfinders Summit are not open to the public. However, a full agenda, list of speakers and live streams will be available at the link in the Related Links box.
