CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville Area Association of REALTORS has awarded a grant to promote fair housing and help sponsor an upcoming summit in Charlottesville.

The $5,000 National Association of REALTORS Diversity Initiative grant will help the "Opening the Door" Regional Housing and Homelessness Summit, which is being held Friday.

"CAAR believes that fair housing is an essential topic to address as part of the inaugural Regional housing and Homelessness Summit," said CAAR President Tele Jenifer. "Our Association hopes to provide support and resources to the conversations during the summit and beyond."

CAAR says this is part of a continuing effort to bring the community together and support diversity and inclusivity, with the association taking an active role in promoting and advocating for fair housing.

The summit will include elected officials and other leaders from the private, public and non-sectors and will be held at the Omni hotel.
