GREENE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Greene County schools have implemented a new policy that prevents anyone from using electronic cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products on school grounds. The policy applies to all students, staff and visitors.

It also bans all tobacco products from being used at school.

The Greene County School Board adopted the policy on Wednesday, and it went into effect the following day.

According to the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth, Greene is the 43rd school division in Virginia to become completely tobacco-free and e-cigarette-free.

The foundation conducted a survey of high school students in Virginia in 2017. It found that 11.8 percent used e-cigarettes and 6.5 percent smoked cigarettes.
