Health district reports rabid fox caught in mobile home park

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Thomas Jefferson Health District says a rabid fox was found in an Albemarle County mobile home park last week.

According to a release, the gray fox was found in the Northwoods Mobile Home Park on June 7 and sent for rabies testing, which came back positive.

Anyone who may have in any way been exposed to saliva from the fox in that area should seek immediate care at the nearest emergency department.

TJHD says rabies is a deadly disease that is 100 percent fatal once symptoms begin to present, but death can be prevented with treatment if such treatment begins immediately after exposure.

Residents are also reminded to make sure their pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations.
