CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- A longtime reverend and staple in the city of Charlottesville now has a street named after him.
On Friday afternoon, Old Fifth Street was designated as Honorary Reverend Rufus Hayes Way.
The Charlottesville City Council approved the honorary street designation earlier this year.
The ceremony took place in the parking lot of the Charlottesville Church of Christ on Fifth Street Southwest.
Hayes was very thankful for this honor. He stated, "I want to thank the community that honored me to be able to agree to name a street after me, but I want to thank God for allowing me the time to live to see this honor."
Hayes has been a local reverend for 50 years and just celebrated his 92nd birthday on Thursday.
