Jim Price gives Meals on Wheels donation

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- Meals on Wheels of Charlottesville Albemarle got a boost from Jim Price Chevrolet as the dealership donated $3,000 on Thursday.

The money was raised during Jim Price's third annual "Race to 1,000," a competition for the dealership to sell 1,000 vehicles from April to June.

"They do so much in the community for people who just need the help, and we wanteed to be able to give back and support what they do," said Dan Price, the dealership's director of marketing.

Meals on Wheels Executive Director Leigh Trippe said donations are more critical now than ever.

"Over the last 10 years, we've grown 60 percent, so the need has outgrown our funding," said Trippe, noting the nonprofit gets no government funding and relies entirely on donations from the community.

Meals on Wheels currently has a wait list of 35 people. Trippe said it costs $1,500 to feed one person for one year.
