Kessler assault case moves forward

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- The case against Jason Kessler is moving forward, after attorneys say they have video evidence of his altercation with a man on the Downtown Mall.

Kessler is accused of punching another man on the mall in January.

Kessler says he was gathering signatures for his petition to remove Wes Bellamy from the Charlottesville City Council at the time of the incident.

He claims he was acting in self defense because a man named James Taylor assaulted him.

In General District Court on Friday, attorneys said there is video of the confrontation and Taylor did not assault Kessler.

The charges were dropped against Taylor.

The assault charge against Kessler still stands, he'll be back in court April 6.
