Last day for businesses to register for hazardous waste disposal day

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Tuesday is the last day for qualifying businesses to pre-register to dispose of hazardous waste at the Ivy Material Utilization Center.

The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority says the Commercial Hazardous Waste Collection Day will take place April 25, but qualifying businesses must pre-register with CARE Environmental Corp by April 16 to get an appointment.

Qualifying businesses are defined as ones that generate no more than 220 pounds of hazardous waste in month, generate no more than 2.2 pounds of acutely hazardous waste in a month, and store no more than 2,200 pounds of hazardous waste.

The businesses must also be in Albemarle County or Charlottesville.

Residents will also be able to dispose of household hazardous waste on April 26 and 27.

The Ivy MUC will host three days during which residents can bring by their bulky waste, including furniture and mattresses on May 4, appliances on May 11, and tires on May 18.
