Local attorney runs for Albemarle Board of Supervisors

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Local attorney Mike Hallahan announced Tuesday he's running for the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.

Hallahan is seeking the Republican nomination for the Scottsville District seat, currently occupied by Democrat Rick Randolph.

Hallahan grew up in Albemarle County and worked as an Albemarle County police officer for several years in his early 20s before becoming an attorney.

He says the county needs policies that favor business and growth in targeted areas. His platform will include cutting the business tax in half to match the rate in neighboring Augusta County.

"We don't need to raise taxes on the people that live in the county," he said. "We need to raise the number of people paying taxes by creating jobs and bringing people into the county."

No other Republican contenders have announced for the Scottsville District seat yet.
