Local private schools among best in Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- A local private school has been ranked among the best in Virginia.

According to Niche's 2018 Best Schools list, St. Anne's-Belfield School comes in at number two for the best boarding school, just behind the Madeira School in McLean.

Several other local boarding schools were also listed, including Woodberry Forest School at number five, Blue Ridge School at number eight, Miller School at number 12, and Fork Union Military Academy at number 17.

St. Anne's also came in third on the list for best private K-12 schools, on which the Madeira School again placed first, though it was tied with the Potomac School that is also in McLean.

Woodberry Forest was again listed, at number 11, as was the Blue Ridge School at number 17.

According to Niche, St. Anne's ranked fourth in Virginia as the best college prep private school. That list was topped by the Potomac School.

Woodberry Forest came in 12th and the Blue Ridge School came in 20th.

As a private high school, St. Anne's also came in fourth, and the Madeira School topped this list for the Commonwealth again.

Other local schools on this list include Woodberry Forest at 11, the Blue Ridge School at 17, and the Miller School at 28.

For best schools for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax County came in first, and St. Anne's came in fifth.

On this list, Woodberry Forest came in at 18, Western Albemarle High School came in at 46, and Albemarle High School came in at 47.

These rankings are based on data from the U.S. Department of Education, test scores, college data and survey responses from Niche users.
