Local restaurants make international list for wine selections

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Several local restaurants have been honored for their wine selections.

Wine Spectator is a magazine that focuses on wine culture, and it annually selects restaurants from across the country and around the world to include on its Best Restaurants for Wine list.

There are three rankings on the list: Award of Excellence, Best of Award of Excellence and Grand Award.

There are more than 8,000 restaurants on the list this year, including eight from the greater Charlottesville area.

Fleurie got the Best of Award of Excellence.

Red Pump Kitchen, Bizou, The Downtown Grille, The Local, Tavola and 1799 at the Clifton in Charlottesville each received the Award of Excellence.

Vintage Restaurant in Orange also got the Award of Excellence.

According to the magazine, the Award of Excellence recognizes restaurants whose wine lists feature a well-chosen assortment of quality producers ranging in size from 90 selections to several hundred.

The Best of Award of Excellence honors wine programs take it further, displaying a breadth across multiple regions and/or significant vertical depth of top wines, along with superior presentation.
