CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world. It brings together people from all different backgrounds. Locally, one amateur team is raising money to add some new additions at Friendship Court.

David Deaton plays for Aromas Cafe FC. He says the team plans to update the two wooden soccer goals at Friendship Court with two sets of youth goals. They're estimating that it will cost about $3,000 for the upgrade. So far they have raised more than $2,000. The team hopes a small investment will have a big impact for the kids in the area.

"Everywhere you go throughout the world people play this common sport," said David Deaton, member of Aromas Cafe, FC. "So in a world that is quite divided at times, even here domestically we recognize that this is something that can bring people together as well."

Deaton says if they make more than their fundraising goal, they plan to use the extra money to purchase soccer balls for the kids. They also plan to teach the sport to those who may not be familiar with how to play. If you would like to help out or donate, please visit the Twitter link next to this story.
