Restaurants can advertise for Happy Hours once again

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Since July 1, a new Virginia law governing Happy Hour advertising has gone into effect.

Now Virginia restaurants can advertise Happy Hour specials and prices.

Before the change in the law, restaurants were prohibited from publicizing when they had Happy Hours and the prices for specials.

One Downtown Mall restaurant likes the idea of letting its customers know what it has to offer and how much it costs.

Bizou restaurant general manager Rachel Gendreau says it might help offset a recent meals tax hike.

"I think it was a deliberate measure for them to be able to do since the meals tax did increase starting on July 1 as well," she said. "We'll be able to offer them a discount sort of to make up for that it's going to be great and a boon to all of us down here on the Downtown Mall who work in restaurants."

Gendreau also says the real test will come on a non-holiday week and customers are already asking about specials.
