Louisa County deputy hit by car while aiding disabled vehicle

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- A Louisa County Sheriff's deputy is in serious condition after he was hit by a car Friday night.

According to police, Deputy D.J. Hart was helping a disabled driver on Route 15 near Gordonsville, when he was hit.

Hart was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with serious injuries.

The sheriff's office says Hart had surgery on two broken legs but the injuries are not life threatening.

Virginia State Police is investigating the cause of the crash.
