Madison Free Clinic hires new Community Outreach Coordinator

MADISON COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Tracy Slaughter was hired at the beginning of April to become the new Community Outreach Coordinator of the Madison Free Clinic.

One of her main priorities will be going to different places in the county to raise awareness about the free clinic.

She plans on starting at the local churches and then going to other places in the Madison communities.

"I want to go to the churches because of the congregation and once it is brought to their awareness, they will spread the word within the community," said Slaughter. "I am now going into the civic organizations as well, and going to businesses to hang flyers."

She also wants to make the clinic more mobile and accessible to people who live in rural areas by going to those communities.

"The goal is to eventually take the clinic out with a nurse and do preventative care and whatever we need to do at that site so people don't have to come to the clinic, we're going to come to you," said Slaughter.

Slaughter hopes these efforts will help more people in the county gain health care coverage.

"We're here to help you and that is what it's all about," said Slaughter. "It's about helping them and making sure that no one in this county is without health care coverage."
