Man arrested for firing gun inside a home on Harris Road

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville Police Department says a man has been arrested for an armed home invasion that occurred last week.

According to police, 24-year-old Ramel Laquinn Smith of Charlottesville was arrested Wednesday in Albemarle County.

He is facing charges of entering a dwelling house with the intent to commit a felony, attempted malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a building.

Smith is also facing a charge for violating a city ordinance concerning discharging a firearm.

Police say the incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. on May 10 on the 500 block of Harris Road.

Officers responded to a report of an armed home invasion and learned that the suspect, who ran away before they got there, had fired several shots inside the home.

No one was injured in the incident.

Smith is being held without bond at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.
