Megabus launches Charlottesville-to-D.C. route

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A new, affordable bus service to Dulles Airport in Washington, D.C. launched Thursday in Charlottesville.

Megabus will be picking up passengers in the Amtrak train station parking lot on West Main Street Thursday through Monday. A second route will run on Fridays and Sundays.

First-time passengers said they were pleased to find the new option with one-way fares below $30.

"The price is right and it was a very convenient option," said Julie Gore, who was taking the Megabus from Charlottesville to D.C. and then traveling on to New York.

Stefan Schenkel was taking Megabus to Dulles on his way home to Germany after a year at Virginia Tech.

"When I [searched] Google, it was, like, the first option," Schenkel said. "It's actually kind of funny that it's the first bus [from Charlottesville] to Dulles."

Megabus won't operate in Charlottesville on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The estimated travel time for the Charlottesville to Dulles trip is two hours and 20 minutes. Weekday buses leave at 1 p.m.
