More sidewalk projects around town

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Work has been taking place on sidewalks around the city, and two more projects will impact pedestrians starting on Monday.

One on Emmet Street is across from the Barracks Road Shopping Center. The city says water line work will close the sidewalk on the northbound side of Emmet Street, including the crosswalk at Wise Street, for one week.

Pedestrians should cross using the crosswalks at Barracks Road or Arlington Boulevard.

The second is on Hinton Avenue where repairs will be made to the sidewalks. The city says there will be intermittent detours on Hinton Avenue during the repairs, which are scheduled to take two weeks.

Pedestrians should cross to the other side of the road at the crosswalks at Avon and Meridian streets.

Ongoing work is also impacting sidewalks and roads around the city.

Two projects are expected to wrap up by this Friday on Marshall Street and on East Water Street.

The Marshall Street sidewalk has been closed for repairs, so pedestrians have been directed to use the east sidewalk between Watson and Davis avenues.

On the 400 block of East Water Street, the sidewalk is also closed for repairs with signs placed in the area alerting people to the closure, though business and parking lot access points needed to remain open during the project.

Over on Grady Avenue, storm drain work has closed the sidewalk until June 21. Pedestrians should cross to the other side at either Rugby Road or 14th Street NW.

Work to make improvements to the sidewalk and roadway on Preston Avenue is expected to be done by June 27. People on the westbound side's sidewalk are being directed to cross to the eastbound side at Forest and Harris streets.

Several projects are projected to be done by the end of the month.
One of these is at the intersection of Emmet Street and Barracks Road where construction is ongoing on the new CVS location. Pedestrians are being advised to use the Wise Street crosswalk to get around the closure.

On the 500 block of West Main Street, in front of Blue Moon Diner II, a pedestrian diversion is in place for sewer work and pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the other side of the street, cross at Seventh and Fifth streets SW.

Two construction projects on Water Street are also affecting sidewalks.

One on the 1000 block of East Water Street is directing pedestrians to cross at Carlton Road and Tenth Street NE.

The second is on the 200 block of West Water Street at the site of the old Main Street Arena where a new office building is being built.

This project has been ongoing for months, and pedestrians should continue to cross to the other sidewalk at the Second Street SW intersection crosswalk.

Utility relocation work on Nassau Street is affecting a sidewalk until July 3, and pedestrians should use the crosswalks at Carl Smith Street and Sunrise Park Lane to get around the closure.

Finally, part of the sidewalk on Eighth Street NE between East Market and East Jefferson streets for an ongoing project. This closure is expected to last through July 5.

Pedestrians heading to East Jefferson Street should use the Market Street crosswalk while those head to East market Street should use the Seventh Street NE crosswalk.
