New traffic pattern to be set up near AHS

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Starting next week, drivers will see a new traffic pattern near Albemarle High School on Hydraulic Road.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says a new traffic pattern will be put in place Tuesday evening near Lambs Road and Whitewood Road.

Crews will be updating pavement markets on Lambs Road beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday to provide separate lanes for left turns, through traffic and right turns.

Whitewood Road has been milled and will be repaved with updated markers as well, when weather permits.

VDOT says there are no lane changes planned for Hydraulic Road itself.

The state agency says the upgraded traffic signal, including flashing yellow arrows for traffic turning left, will be turned on by 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The new signals will mean drivers turning onto Hydraulic Road from Whitewood or Lambs roads will be able to do so after yielding to oncoming traffic.

Drivers in the area on Tuesday night should expect some delays.

VDOT says these new signals will help it make changes to the order in which traffic moves through the intersection and adjust the duration of the left turn signal during busier times of day, based on traffic volumes.
