Online wedding company shuts down

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- An online wedding planning business that launched in Charlottesville in 2011 and raised more than $10 million by 2016 has shut down.

"We’re proud that we’ve played a small part in helping thousands of couples across the United States organize and celebrate their special day," read an email sent to vendors from Borrowed and Blue management announcing the closure.

On Friday, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, employees were laid off.

Borrowed & Blue was co-founded by Adam and Christin Healey, who came up with the idea of an online hub for wedding resources while planning their own wedding.

The company operated two offices, one in Charlottesville and one in Boulder, Colorado. The site allowed wedding vendors to showcase their skills and shared real-life wedding stories from around the country.

The Healeys did not respond to a request for comment.

Messages left for investors and a board member also went unreturned.

The email to vendors says the site's content will be accessible through the end of October.
