ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Orange County Tourism Department is looking for input from residents for new welcome signs.
The project is a part of the county's Capital Improvement Plan and the idea was originally proposed in 2014.
It was tabled until this year.
Lori Landes-Carter, the Tourism Manager, said the project is a great way to show what Orange County is all about.
"It's a community pride project to show a beautiful sign that welcomes everyone," said Landes-Carter. "It's an opportunity for our community to be proud of where we are and where we live and to welcome our visitors."
Nearly 85,000 people enter Orange County every day in nine different areas, but only two locations have signs welcoming people to Orange County.
She hopes a sign or a billboard will draw more people to visit the area instead of passing through Orange en route to their destination.
"A billboard seen by those many people is the same concept as a welcome sign," said Landes-Carter. "We are looking build this beautiful welcome sign that will be our billboard to welcome all the traffic coming through our county because that's a lot of people traveling through the county."
She said she is excited to see what input the community provides for her.
"I think it's a wonderful opportunity to be able to showcase the beauty of where we are and to be able to present a beautiful product that is classic, that will be welcoming and will help our visitors find where they are when they move into our borders," she said.
The tourism department put out an online survey last week asking residents what do they want on the signs.
The survey will be out for a couple of months at least.
If you do not have access to the online survey, you can visit the Visitor's Center and you can fill out a physical copy of the survey.
After the survey finishes, officials will present concepts of the signs to the tourism advisory committee and the Orange County Board of Supervisors publicly.
Landes-Carter hopes to have at least one of the signs in place in by the end of the 2019 or the beginning of 2020.
