Orange County woman killed in weekend crash

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Virginia State Police reports an Orange County woman died in a weekend crash in Spotsylvania County.

The crash occurred around 10:10 p.m. on April 14 on Courthouse Road about half a mile south of Smith Station Road.

According to police, a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier was heading the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of Courthouse Road when it hit an eastbound 2013 Ford Fusion.

There were four adults and a juvenile in the Chevy, and police say two of the adults died at the scene.

The other two adults, neither of whom was wearing a seat belt, and the juvenile, who was secured in a proper child safety seat, were taken to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the Ford, a 40-year-old woman from Fredericksburg, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police have identified the two victims as 29-year-old Stephany L. Hartley of Locust Grove and 20-year-old Richard M. Van Houten of Woodbridge.

Hartley was the driver of the Chevy and Van Houten was a passenger. Neither of them was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
