PVCC recognized for drone training program for emergency responders

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A national organization has recognized a program at Piedmont Virginia Community College.

According to a release, the National Council on Public Safety Unmanned Aircraft Systems awarded the college a commendation for its leadership in drop operation training for emergency responders.

The award was presented during PVCC's third annual National Public Safety Unmanned Aircraft Systems Conference, which was held at Kind Family Vineyards last week.

"PVCC's National Public Safety UAS Conference is truly one of the best in the world," said Charles L. Werner, the chair of the National Council. "The conference brings in the best instructors combined with exceptional vendors. This conference continues to evolve by bringing in the relevant curriculum and demonstrations to continually advance public safety unmanned aircraft systems."

This year's conference brought in public safety professional from across the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan, including leading experts in law enforcement, public safety, search and rescue, emergency services, and disaster relief who have integrated drones into their operations.
