Parade to close downtown roads for several hours

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Several streets in downtown Charlottesville will close Saturday morning due to the 2019 Dogwood Parade.

The parade is set to begin at 10:55 a.m.McIntire Road will close at 8 a.m. between the intersection with Preston Avenue and Harris Street.

Market Street and East High Street will both close at 10:40 a.m. from the Preston Avenue intersection to Seventh Street NE.

The Downtown Mall vehicular crossings at Second and Fourth streets will close to curbed parking at 7 a.m. and the crossings themselves will close at 10:30 a.m.

All of these closures will end at 1 p.m.

Charlottesville officials say access to the Market Street parking garage will be affected during these closures, so drivers are advised to plan accordingly.

Charlottesville Area Transit riders will also be affected, as several routes will have to detour around the closures.
