ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Part of Ivy Road will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday due to work to replace a pipe.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says crews will be replacing a large pipe just east of Tilman Road in Albemarle County.

According to a release, the pipe needs to be replaced to prevent damage to the travel lanes.

VDOT says the work has been scheduled to avoid the morning rush hours on both days, with the road closing at 10 a.m. on Wednesday and scheduled to reopen by 4 a.m. Thursday.

Crews will be excavating the soil above and around the pipe in order to remove it, install the new pipe and then backfill the area and repave it.

All of this work is weather permitting.

Drivers are being advised to use Morgantown Road to avoid the closure.
