Police investigating crash, assault near Jefferson School

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville Police Department is investigating a crash and assault that occurred on Fourth Street NW on Friday.

According to police, officers responded to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian around 6:30 p.m. near the Jefferson School.

When they arrived, they learned a female juvenile had been hit by a car and an elderly man had been assaulted.

Witnesses told officers the girl has unexpectedly run into the street after a disorder involving a group near the school when she was hit by the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene of the crash and was also assaulted.

Both the girl and the driver were taken to the University of Virginia Health System for the treatment of injuries, but they have since been released.
