Political Tuesday: Free Speech at Colleges Legislation

By  |

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- Under a new state law, Virginia's universities and colleges will need to put regulations in place to ensure that invited guests have the chance to deliver their messages without being shouted down by protesters.

The bill was sponsored by Delegate Steve Landes, a Republican who represents part of Albemarle County. It was signed by Governor Terry McAuliffe earlier this month.

In this week's Political Tuesday, Landes spoke about why he wanted to pursue this bill, and he explained how the law does not limit the free speech rights of protesters.
