Presentation teaches community about end of Civil War

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Local researchers made their presentations about the end of the Civil War in Charlottesville and Albemarle County as part of a series of events for Liberation and Freedom Day on Saturday morning.

The event gave the community a chance to see how the community was for residents who were enslaved during the Civil War.

Before people sat down for the presentations, they also took a walking tour through Court Square to learn about the local freedman and their descendants who worked and lived downtown.

The events for Liberation and Freedom day will continue Sunday afternoon at the University of Virginia Rotunda with a service and a blessing at the site of the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers.
