FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) -- Prosecutors in Virginia say a man shot his wife to death, then shot himself and placed the gun in her hands to cover up the crime.
A Fairfax County jury found 55-year-old Laszlo Pentek guilty of first-degree murder Friday in the 2017 slaying of his wife, 51-year-old Donna Pentek.
The Washington Post reports that during the seven-day trial, prosecutors painted a picture of an elaborate cover-up made by Laszlo Pentek. They accused him of finding documents detailing his wife's bankruptcy, shooting her, then creating the impression that an altercation had occurred and she killed herself.
His defense contended Donna Pentek killed herself and argued forensic evidence didn't fit the prosecution's version of events.
Laszlo Pentek faces 39 years in prison upon sentencing in December.
