ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Students interested in birds can apply for a new scholarship to study ornithology.

Piedmont Virginia Community College and the Monticello Bird Club partnered to create the scholarship.

MBC is a local nonprofit that promotes interest in and knowledge of nature, birds and conservation. It also offers activities and education programs on birds, their life cycles, habitat preservation and more.

This scholarship will help students participate in PVCC's Field Ornithology class, specifically a student pursuing an interest in ornithology and the natural world.

"The PVCC Field Ornithology class is an opportunity to see and hear Virginia birds in their natural habitat as well as non-resident birds as they migrate through the Commonwealth," said MBC President Doug Rogers. "The class is a great introduction to the science ornithology, and the Monticello Bird Club is pleased to partner with the PVCC Education Foundation to provide this experience to a worthy student."

Applications are being accepted until Dec. 15.
