RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A special election is set to decide who replaces new U.S. Rep. Jennifer Wexton in the Virginia state senate.

Voters in parts of Loudoun and Fairfax counties will decide Tuesday between Democrat Jennifer Boysko and Republican Joe May.

Boysko is a current member of the state House. May is a former House member who served from 1994 to 2014.

Democrats have won the district by about a 2 to 1 margin in recent elections. Wexton, a Democrat, won the district easily in 2015. She won a seat in Congress last year.

Republicans have a slight majority in the state Senate they will retain regardless of Tuesday's outcome.
