'Stop the Bans' protest held on Downtown Mall

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A protest was held on the Downtown Mall on Tuesday to fight abortion laws in the country.

The "Stop the Bans" protest was one of many held across the country.
It aimed to teach members of the community about abortion access, specifically in Virginia.

They are in response to numerous restrive laws that have been passed in several states this year.

Kobby Hoffman, a board member for the National Organization for Women, says that no one is alone in this fight.

"It is really important, we are here to keep abortion legal, we are here to keep birth control legal, we are here to keep emergency contraception needs legal, we are here to keep medically-correct education for our children, we are here to keep access to clinics and to health services," said Hoffman.

She added decisions on abortion are difficult and should be left to women and their families, not lawmakers.
