CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Heather Heyer's mother, Susan Bro said she was surprised to see Joe Biden use Charlottesville as the focal point of his campaign announcement on Thursday.
"Being included is one thing, but being the focus is another," said Bro.
The first couple of minutes of the video mentioned the events of Aug. 12, 2017 and Heyer's death.
Bro said she was surprised that Biden mentioned Charlottesville because he did not visit the city after it was rumored that he would announce his candidacy in Charlottesville.
She said she was not contacted by Biden or his representatives ahead of time about the video.
Bro said she does not plan on getting involved in anything political.
"I am the face, the president, co-founder, and the board chair of the Heather Heyer Foundation," said Bro. "We are not going to endorse or support any campaign."
She wants voters to focus on the candidates and the issues that surround the upcoming presidential race and not the party lines.
Bro expects other presidential candidates to possibly mention the city in their campaigns going forward.
