Sweet Briar hires firm to help with president search

SWEET BRIAR, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- Sweet Briar College is looking for a new president, and it has selected a firm to help with that search.

According to a release, Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates will help lead the search.

The firm specializes in higher education executive recruitment and has worked with Wellesley College and Sewanee: The University of the South among several others.

In April, Sweet Briar said President Phillip Stone was going to return to his retirement starting in July of 2017.

Stone came out of retirement last year following the announcement the college was going to close due to financial reasons and the massive response from alumnae.

"We owe Phil Stone a tremendous debt of gratitude," said Teresa Pike Tomlinson, board chairwoman and chief of the Search Committee. "He left his life to join us on this journey and he has done a remarkable job. The next president will have big shoes to fill, but with Storbeck's help, we are certain we will find that next visionary leader."

Members of the faculty and staff as well as alumnae and student representatives will all be on the committee searching for a new president.

Thanks to fundraising by alumnae, the college reopened on time and without incident just in time for classes to resume for the 2015-2016 academic year.
