ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- WillowTree Apps of Charlottesville and Albemarle County officials announced on Tuesday that construction has officially begun on the tech company's new headquarters location.

The company announced its expansion in the summer of 2018.

In 2018 alone, WillowTree added more than 100 new jobs in Charlottesville.

With this new location, the company says it can add an additional 200.

Mike Moore, partner and Chief Commercial Officer of WillowTree, says the new location will be large enough to fit more than 400 employees.

Moore mentioned that for years, tech companies have been concentrated in places like New York and Silicon Valley.

He says that is beginning to change as they have a really good foothold in Charlottesville right now.

"We think that the new building, the new headquarters takes us even further to further attract the talent and quite frankly the clients the way we have over the last couple of years," mentioned Moore.

Besides WillowTree moving in, a coffee shop and brewpub is planned for the building also.

WillowTree hopes to up and running in the new location by early 2020.
