Tom Sox donates portion of proceeds to Bennett's Village

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Bennett's Village was the beneficiary of Sunday's Charlottesville Tom Sox baseball game.

The baseball team donated a portion of the money it made from the game to the organization.

Bennett's Village also got to throw out the first pitch at the game.

Kara McClurken said the organization is grateful that the Tom Sox chose Bennett's Village as the beneficiary. She's also thankful about raising awareness for the need of an inclusive area for kids to play in.

"It's pretty wonderful," said McClurken. "One of the things Bennett's Village wants to do is we don't just want to build a playground, we want to talk about all the different ways that we can include people in all activities that deal with play and recreation."

Bennett's Village said it plans on doing another fundraiser on Sept. 20 at a Charlottesville Cardinals wheelchair basketball game.
