Tracci launches re-election campaign

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Albemarle County Commonwealth's Attorney Robert Tracci has announced his bid for re-election.

Tracci is a Republican and has held the office since 2016. At his campaign launch, he said he will work to establish legal limits for driving under the influence of marijuana and will emphasize re-entry support for people coming out of prison.

He said the office needs to be apolitical, and he cited his accomplishments during his first term.

"We've made considerable progress on issues ranging from elder abuse and exploitation to child exploitation, online solicitation, DNA databank enhancement, multijurisdictional grand jury, making sure Title IX is part of the sexual response team," he said.

Tracci’s endorsements include Albemarle County Sheriff Chip Harding and Morgan Harrington's mother Gil Harrington, who praised his sensitive handling of her daughter’s murder case.

Tracci will face former public defender Jim Hingeley, a Democrat, in the November election.
