ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- People interested in what a pharmacy technician does can learn more about a program for that career field at a series of sessions at a local community college.

Piedmont Virginia Community College will be holding free information sessions on its Pharmacy Technician Program starting Tuesday.

The program gets students ready to work in various pharmacy settings through classroom, simulation and hands-on experience.

It also helps students prepare for the certification exam.

PVCC says the current salary for a pharmacy technician in Central Virginia ranges between $13 and $22 an hour, with projections showing an estimated 27-percent growth in the field over the next decade.

The information sessions will be held at 3 p.m. at the Keats Health Sciences Building on July 23, July 30, July 31 and Aug. 6.
