VDOT getting ready for wintry mix

CULPEPER, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A wide range of wintry weather is expected to impact the area Tuesday night and Wednesday.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is urging drivers to stay off the roads during the storm, which is expected to bring a mixture of snow, ice, sleet, and rain to a large portion of the Commonwealth.

VDOT says crews have already begun pretreating highways and major roadways and the state agency is also coordinating with tree removal crews and utility companies to prepare for the possibility of trees and limbs being brought down by ice, thus causing power outages.

Due to the forecasted snow and ice, road conditions are expected to be slick and hazardous, but crews will be working around the clock to clear roads, beginning with interstates and primary roads.
