Virginia Artisans Studio Tour displays work of local artisans

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- People could take a tour around central Virginia to see the work of local artisans on Saturday and Sunday during the Virginia Artisans Studio Tour.

The self-guided tour took people through Charlottesville and surrounding counties to look at and buy items like handmade jewelry, furniture, sculptures, and leather purses.

Every studio has "passports" for people to bring with them on the tour to get stamped at each one they visit. Participants have a chance to win up to $300 in credit to buy an artist's work by submitting their passport when done.

Tavia Brown, a jewelry maker, said the tour is a way for the community to learn about local craftsmen that they might not have known were in the area.

"It's a way for us to connect with our community, show them what we make, how we're making it," said Brown. "It's definitely a more intimate experience with the artisan than going to a normal craft show."

Local food and beverage vendors are also featured at every studio along the tour.
