CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- State Farm launched an innovative way to find job applicants for positions all across the country on Thursday through a "virtual" career fair.
The idea behind the fair was to make the process convenient for job seekers regardless of their location or access to transportation, with the fair taking place both over the Internet and through text at a time that works for the interviewee.
It kicked off at 8 a.m., with State Farm even looking to fill posts here in Charlottesville. The company hoped a virtual approach would help attract more candidates for positions in customer care and IT services, among others.
"We're trying to recruit talent for the openings we anticipate coming this year," said State Farm spokesperson Kate Beadle. "We anticipate about 30 positions being available."
The virtual fair also serves as a place for interviewees to receive one-on-one advice from recruiters that they might not typically receive at a normal job fair.
"At the end of the conversation," Beadle noted, "the job applicant can get some advice from the recruiter about what their next steps may be."
Thursday's event was scheduled to run until 9 p.m.
