ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Due to the chance for severe weather on Tuesday, work on Valley Street in Scottsville has been postponed for one day.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says the slope work on Valley Street will now take place Wednesday and Thursday instead.

Valley Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days between Irish Road and Main Street.

VDOT says the road will be open after 6 p.m. both days.

There is a steep slope next to the travel lanes that needs to be stabilized, which VDOT says is not feasible with one traffic lane open during the work.

Area residents who are heading north on Valley Street should get off Valley at Hardware Street while drivers heading south should take the posted detour around the Albemarle County town.

People heading south from Keene should turn left on James River Road, left on Blenheim Road, right on Albevanna Spring Road, right on Pat Dennis Road, right onto Poplar Spring Road and right on to Main Street in order to get back on Valley Street.

Northbound drivers from Buckingham County are advised to reverse that detour.

Tractor trailers should stay off of Valley Street and find alternate routes using routes 6 or 15.
