Karate school hands out free flowers and candy to spread love

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- A karate school in Charlottesville spent Saturday afternoon spreading love and kindness with free candy and flowers.

Members of UpLevel Martial Arts were handing out free candy and flowers on the Downtown Mall on Saturday.

There was no reason behind it, and they say they just wanted to spread love in light of recent events.

"Sometimes you can get bogged down with the negativity on maybe the news or just what you see on social media or the Internet," said William Wegert, chief instructor. "It's nice to have an act of kindness given to you at a random time and it brightens your day."

Wegert called it "Love Day," and wanted to show people how they give back to the community.
