Anonymous donor wants to help Tom Sox this summer

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Fans who donate to the Charlottesville Tom Sox over the next few weeks have a chance to stretch a single into a double.

The team announced its "Play For 100K" campaign on Wednesday afternoon. An anonymous donor has offered to match every dollar pledged to the Valley League franchise -- up to $100,000 -- through the end of June.

Those donations go toward everything from league fees and transportation and facilities, to uniforms and in-game entertainment. The contributions are tax deductible, with the Tom Sox providing a charitable donation letter.

The Tom Sox open their fifth season in the Valley League at Harrisonburg on May 31. The home opener is June 5 at Charlottesville High School against Covington. The Tom Sox won the Valley League championship in 2017, and return to the league's championship series last summer.
