CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Jason Bennett know what it's like to be a first-time athletic director.
"I remember my first couple years it was very overwhelming doing that job. Just all the details, and all the miniscule things that you don't think about behind the scenes," he recalled. "But over time you develop your organization, and you develop how to take care of those little things and details."
Bennett was introduced on Tuesday morning as the new athletic director at the Covenant School. He brings two decades of experience to the position, having spent the past 20 years as director of athletics and student activities at Chapelgate Christian Academy in Maryland.
Bennett believes that experience will be valuable as he moves into his new role -- but equally valuable is the passion he'll bring to the job.
"In order to motivate the kids, they want to see somebody that's behind them. Somebody that's gung-ho and believing into what you're doing, and they want to buy into that," Bennett said. "And if you don't have passion to show them, then they're not going to be able to return that."
Bennett has also served as assistant athletic director at Montrose Christian School in Maryland, and has coached at both Montrose and Chapelgate. He and his family will move to Charlottesville this summer, and Bennett looks forward to meeting coaches and students at Covenant and beginning the next chapter in his career as an athletic director.
"It's long hours, and it's a lot of time, a lot of work. But the results are fantastic," Bennett said. "When you see what product is being developed with the kids, that to me is what makes it fun."
