Boar's Head hosting World Masters squash tournament

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Some of the best squash players in the world are in Charlottesville this week for the World Masters tournament. It is the first time the tournament has been held in the United States.

The McArthur squash courts at Boar's Head just finished a renovation to get ready to host the event.

"This facility was built five years ago and it was built very much in find for hosting large events," said tournament director and Virginia squash coach Mark Allen. With the addition of the five courts extension that we only finished five weeks ago,we have everything that we need to do a really good job of hosting a major event, a major squash event."

"So we made a bid for this," Allen added, "and we were fortunate enough to win it from the World Squash Federation."

The facilities have made quite the impression on the more than 800 competitors this week.

"I think these facilities are the best squash facilities in the United States," said Sean Ryan, a player representing Australia. "I've played in a many. I think these are the best I've played in. They keep improving them. Its amazing what they've done with the complex. I've played here before and I cam back this year and they've enhanced the complex unexpectedly and sensationally."

In the tournament, 58 countries are represented.
