RICHMOND, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- The Touchdown Club of Richmond has named Virginia's Bronco Mendenhall the 2018 Bobby Ross Coach of the Year.
In Mendenhall's third season at the school, UVA finished 8-5 following a 28-0 win over South Carolina in the Belk Bowl. Picked to finish last in the Coastal Division prior to the season, UVA entered November on top of the division standings and ranked nationally for the first time in seven years. The Wahoos wound up finishing third in the Coastal at 4-4.
UVA's eight wins were the most for the program since 2011, and the Belk Bowl win was Virginia's first postseason victory since 2005.
The Bobby Ross award goes to the best Division I coach in Virginia each season. Last month, UVA quarterback Bryce Perkins was the unanimous winner of the Dudley Award, given by the Touchdown Club of Richmond to the best Division I player in the state.
