Brunelle named NHSCA Girls' Basketball Player of the Year

STANARDSVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- William Monroe's Sam Brunelle added another honor on Wednesday being named the National High School Coaches Association Girls' Basketball Player of the Year.

Brunelle is the third player from Virginia to win the award all time joining Monacan's Megan Walker in 2017 and Princess Anne's Elisabeth Williams in 2011. Other notable players to win the award include former Naismith Award winners Breanna Stewart, Maya Moore, Tina Charles and Candace Parker.

The Notre Dame signee finished her career 11th all-time on the Virginia scoring list and 6th all-time in rebounds. Brunelle also led the Dragons to the Class 3 State Semifinals this past season for the first time in program history.
