Freshman Nic Kent drove in a pair of runs with a solo home run and an RBI single as Virginia bounced back from a rough weekend to beat Radford on Tuesday night.
Kent homered on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the first inning to get the Wahoos on the board. His RBI single capped the scoring for the Cavaliers as part of a three-run sixth inning as UVA opened up a 6-0 lead.
Freshmen Billy Price and Zach Messinger threw three shutout innings on two hits apiece for UVA. Price struck out three and walked one, while Messinger (2-1) only faced 10 batters in his three innings of work. Devin Ortiz worked the final three innings for his first save, giving up three ninth-inning runs on six hits, with five strikeouts.
Alex Tappen also had a pair of hits and scored twice for the Wahoos, who improved to 22-16 with Florida State coming to Disharoon Park for a three-game ACC series starting Thursday night. UVA was swept at home by Miami in conference play last weekend.
